The Certificate of Good Conduct, officially known as the Police Clearance Certificate in Kenya, is a formal document issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that confirms whether an individual has a criminal record within the country.
It is a prerequisite for many activities, including job applications, university admissions, and visa/immigration processes.
📄 Required Documents
You must present the following original documents during your in-person fingerprinting appointment:
1.Original National ID Card (and a copy).
2.Original Birth Certificate (for applicants under 18 years old).
3.Payment Slip/Receipt (printed from eCitizen).
4.Printed C24 Form (from eCitizen, where the fingerprints will be taken).
💻 Application Process via eCitizen
The application is initiated and paid for entirely online through the Government of Kenya's eCitizen portal.
Step 1: Online Application and Payment
1.Log in to your eCitizen account. If you don't have one, register first.
2.Navigate to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) services.
3.Select the Police Clearance Certificate service.
4.Fill in the required application details and select your preferred fingerprinting centre (e.g., DCI Headquarters, a Huduma Centre, or a specific police station).
5.Pay the non-refundable fee of Kshs. 1,000/- using the available mobile money or card options.
6.Print out two copies of the payment slip and the system-generated C24 form (or two copies of the C24 form depending on the centre's requirements).
Step 2: Fingerprinting Appointment
1.Go to the DCI office or Huduma Centre you selected on the date of your appointment.
2.Present your printed documents and ID to the DCI officer.
3.Your fingerprints and palm prints will be taken and recorded on the C24 form.
Step 3: Certificate Issuance
After the fingerprinting, the DCI processes the application. The processing time is typically 5 days but can sometimes take longer. Once ready, you will be notified via SMS, and you can download the Police Clearance Certificate directly from your eCitizen account.
For Kenyans living abroad or foreign citizens: The process requires application via eCitizen or the nearest Kenyan Embassy/Mission, and you may need additional documents like a certified copy of your passport and proof of legal stay in Kenya.
